During the first chapters of Raymond Chandlers "The Lady in the Lake" a detective named Phillip Marlowe is hired to find a missing person, the wife of Lavery Kingsley. Throughout his investigations Marlowe unravels many secrets. Marlowe investigates where Kingsley's wife was last heard to be. While searching around the nieghborhood Marlowe suspects a suspicious neighbor by the name of Degarmo. Degarmo warns him to stay away and that he wont find anything to help where he is looking.
Marlowe and partner Bill Chess go to Kingsleys house in the mountains to search for his wife. They come upon a dead body in the lake but could not distinguish any specific features. The body was of a womens but they could not figure out who it was. I think Marlowe had the conculsion of it being Bill Chess's wife. He then peices all of the evidence together and comes up with a women named Mildred Haviland, who was once married to suspicous Degarmo. The women was also Bill Chess's wife who had changed her name to Muriel. The same women keeps appearing everywhere Marlowe looks.
