Mr Sebastian and the Negro Magician

Henry Walker is a the negro Magician. His shows are performed at Musgroves Chinese Circus, making people think that even though their lives are bad that it could be worse. All of a sudden after the show was canceled Henry Walker suspiciously disappears.
After that the story is told in spans over decades. The book is from the viewpoints of Henry’s fellow circus performers and others that his life has touched. They tell from all different years of his life. Even back to when he first learned magic, and survived the tragic loss of his adored sister Hannah. Each story of Henry’s past is told from a different viewpoint, and is just a little different from the one before, until you don’t know what to believe until the story ends. I found myself entranced with this book and found it an enchanting story dealing with loss, identity, the limits of magic, and how a person’s actions can influence others. The story confuses the reader, leaving them to wonder, did Henry Walker make a deal with the devil for his magic, or was he instead just a gifted magician who had been run down by time?

Lady in the Lake

During the first chapters of Raymond Chandlers "The Lady in the Lake" a detective named Phillip Marlowe is hired to find a missing person, the wife of Lavery Kingsley. Throughout his investigations Marlowe unravels many secrets. Marlowe investigates where Kingsley's wife was last heard to be. While searching around the nieghborhood Marlowe suspects a suspicious neighbor by the name of Degarmo. Degarmo warns him to stay away and that he wont find anything to help where he is looking.
Marlowe and partner Bill Chess go to Kingsleys house in the mountains to search for his wife. They come upon a dead body in the lake but could not distinguish any specific features. The body was of a womens but they could not figure out who it was. I think Marlowe had the conculsion of it being Bill Chess's wife. He then peices all of the evidence together and comes up with a women named Mildred Haviland, who was once married to suspicous Degarmo. The women was also Bill Chess's wife who had changed her name to Muriel. The same women keeps appearing everywhere Marlowe looks.
